Park4night

Park4night is an app available for Android, iOS and Windows Phone, which allows you to check campsites, motorhome areas, rest areas or simply places where you can stop to rest or spend the night.

The great thing about this app is that it is powered by a large community. You can add places or report errors or issues you find at these locations. This way, at a glance you can see places that may interest you and quickly check both the average rating given by visitors, as well as the comments or photos they have shared.

Waze

Waze has become the best alternative to Google Maps for one specific reason: it is backed by a community of drivers who share all kinds of information of great value for anyone who gets behind the wheel and heads to a specific destination in their vehicle.

Maps.me

The best offline GPS (no internet connection) you can find.

Travelling to Andorra? This is your best GPS for getting around the country easily. Remember that roaming prices in Andorra for Spanish phones are exorbitant.

This app offers you the option of having an offline GPS without needing data. Although Google Maps also offers this option, with Maps.Me downloading data and offline mode are more accessible and intuitive. You just need to download the area you are going to travel to. However, for road navigation we still prefer Google Maps or Waze.

But one of the reasons this app is a must-have—and, for us, the best feature it offers—is that it not only has maps and information for roads, it also includes information on paths and trails so you can use it on treks all over the world.

Coyote

Coyote is another classic when it comes to detecting speed cameras. It is a community with millions of users where information is shared in real time. That said, Coyote is paid. It costs €49.99 per year or €8.99 per month, a price that is worth it if you travel a lot by road. It currently has a free month.

Anticipate and adapt your driving. Enjoy its real-time alerts about incidents during your road trip (accidents, traffic, speed cameras, stopped vehicle, narrowing, roadworks, events, etc.).

Avoid fines and penalties: Coyote works as a speed camera warning system. Types:

  • Fixed and mobile speed cameras
  • Average speed cameras
  • Traffic light cameras
  • Seat belt and mobile phone cameras

Wikiloc

Designed for any outdoor activity, whether walking, cycling or even kayaking, this app offers routes of all kinds that you can follow or create yourself, and it has been a key tool for this journey.

The app lets you search for all kinds of routes based on your location or the search terms you add. If you search for “Camino de Santiago”, you will see dozens of results for each of the stages that make up this route, whether the French Way, Portuguese, etc. Total distance, elevation gain, estimated time and even a chart showing the climbs and descents you will encounter along the way is the information you can view from the main screen, completely free of charge.

If you want to track the route and record your own—which you can also share afterwards so others can do it—you will need to make an in-app purchase. For €2.99 you will have access to all features for 3 months, including offline maps so you do not have issues with downloads if you lose coverage in the middle of the mountains. You can even share your route live with other users, who will know where you are at all times.
