Enjoy our suggestions for travelling to Morella by motorhome or camper van.

We suggest renting a motorhome and spending a few unforgettable days, whether on your own, with family, or with friends—do you like the idea?

Think about it: it could be just what you need. For a few days you can go and relax without worrying about accommodation; you just have to choose your destination.

We suggest a trip to Morella, a very beautiful village with a special charm, perched on top of a hill and crowned by a castle, located in the Els Ports region, in the province of Castellón.

Morella was a very important town in the medieval period, as it lay between three kingdoms—Valencia, Aragon and Catalonia. Even today we can still see its significance, as it has preserved its walls and narrow streets, as well as its castle.

To enter the town, you will need to go through the gates in its walls: the Sant Miquel Gate, the Sant Mateu Portal, the dels Estudis Gate, the Forcall Gate, the Tower and the King’s Gate. Once inside the old town, you can enjoy its streets with porticoes and arcades, home to restaurants and old shops selling both local products and crafts. You will also see Gothic palaces and façades that transport you to another era.

Places you can’t miss:

  • Castle (access is via the bullring square) was built on the “mola” in the 13th century. At the lower part of the crag is the entrance and the Governor’s Palace, all surrounded by walls and towers. The next level is where the artillery batteries were located. And at the top was the castle, reached via a staircase that had 90 steps, 54 of which are still preserved, leading to the square through a passageway that opens onto the parade ground.
  • Pla dels Estudis Square, where you can admire the harmony created by the houses around the square.
  • Benedict XV Square, where the Archpriest Church of Santa María la Mayor is located.
  • Archpriest Church of Santa María, declared a Site of Cultural Interest, with an impressive Gothic and Renaissance-style façade and a spectacular interior, both for its altarpiece and its Baroque organ, considered the most important in the Valencian Community.
  • Convent of San Francisco, which preserves its cloister with its arches, currently closed for works.
  • Town Hall, where you can access its inner courtyard. You can also visit its medieval prison, but it has set opening hours and an admission fee.

Natural places you can’t miss:

  • Toll Blau and the source of the Cervol River. To get there, you need to reach Mas de la Torre. From there we will descend to the Barranc de Cap de Terme, first passing the Molí d’en Rico, and suddenly the Toll Blau appears before us. We continue to the Molí de la Font, which must be skirted to find the path that leads to the source of the Cervol River. The area is surrounded by oak, pine and holm oak forests, as well as countless native plants. We especially liked the route taken by Furgo y Porteo.
  • Swimming areas of the Bergantes River, as it passes by the Sanctuary of La Balma. Following the road towards Aguaviva, on the right there are small areas where you can park and, after walking just a few metres, enjoy the river.

  • Cave paintings of Morella la Vella, located about 6 km from the town centre. You need to book a visit at the tourist office.
  • Giner Factory, located 4 km from Morella, a former factory that has been restored. It used to be dedicated to textiles and has a large 40-metre-high chimney. Nowadays it is used as a hostel, rural accommodation, sports area, landscaped spaces, children’s playgrounds, etc.
  • Saltapins, a multi-adventure circuit to enjoy in nature, with Tibetan bridges, vines, logs, pirate nets and zip lines of up to 100 metres. Set among pine trees, the park has different adventure circuits for adults and children.

So you can take your best photo and enjoy the best views of Morella, we suggest taking it from:

  • The 14th-century aqueduct.
  • At the top of the CV-12 road towards Ares del Maestrat.
  • Motorhome area.

Places to eat:

In the old town:

  • La Fonda Moreno Restaurant
  • Mesón del Pastor
  • Daluan Restaurant. If you are a foodie and have time, we recommend their tasting menu.

Outside the old town:

  • Adolfo’s
  • La Parrilla El Rincón

Places to stay overnight:

  • Morella area, on the N-232 that skirts the village, about 2 km away. Take the exit towards Chiva and Morella via the CV-117 (signposted). A few metres ahead on the right, you can access the area directly.
  • Parking in Morella (Alameda area). Please note that during certain periods there is a fee to enter.
